Dear Friends & Supporters,
I knew stepping into this race was a big challenge. But I’ve never settled for the easy path.
Each day, it was your warm words, hard work, and financial support, that kept me running. And despite the ultimate results of this race, I am more inspired and grateful than ever by the friends, family, and supporters who ran with me.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am humbled and honored to have you on my side.
Our campaign took extraordinary leaps, especially in the last month. Despite entering the race late, despite facing a forty year incumbent who outspent me by more than ten to one… I was endorsed by The New York Times and the Women’s Campaign Forum. We ran as smart and strategic a race as possible. I appreciated that you dug deep into your pockets in such trying economic times, so we made every dollar count. In the end, we secured thirteen percent of the vote in a six-candidate race — more than two other candidates who outspent this campaign. These accomplishments matter. While the wind at our backs may not have blown down the door, it is ajar and I will continue to pry it open.
My service to the 15th Congressional District will continue. Women still aren’t being paid fairly. Seniors still don’t have affordable housing. Children are still stuffed into overcrowded classrooms. Unemployment rates remain unacceptable. I will continue to put my experience to work, to devise and advocate for common sense solutions to these problems.
Stay Tuned…
Warm Thanks,
Joyce Johnson
